Does any of the following sound familiar?
• You paint regularly and are committed to improving, but feel lost or lack direction?
• You have watched tutorials, attended workshops or read books, but are finding it difficult to bring everything together in your own way?
• You have a growing sense of what you enjoy and the sort of work you'd love to create, but you're not quite sure how to get there?
• You want to move beyond simply learning techniques and begin developing your own process and artistic voice?
• You often find yourself copying or closely following your subject, rather than creating a painting that feels like your own interpretation?
• You struggle to turn inspiration into finished paintings?
• You are full of ideas but find it difficult to focus or channel them?
• Or perhaps you are simply looking for fresh inspiration and a new spark to move your work forwards?
Whether you've been painting for one year or twenty, there is a common thread that connects all of these challenges, and many more, and they are a natural part of growing into a more thoughtful and independent painter.
If you've nodded along to any of the above, you're certainly not alone, so come and join 2 of the most sought-after art tutors in the UK for a unique 3-day collaborative workshop, aimed at artists looking to develop their own individual skills, artistic development and creative outcomes in the studio.
This is a special 3-day workshop which will allow Peter & Tom to work with you on what YOU are looking to develop! Delivered through a mixture of duo-demonstrations, critiques and discussions, you will be in the studio with other like-minded artists, all working on strengthening their own individual skills and producing successful paintings. An immersive creative experience to fully commit yourself to your art work.
Perhaps the biggest aim of this workshop is to help you develop your own creative compass—a way of thinking about your work that helps guide your painting journey.
Not a rigid map with a fixed destination, but a compass that evolves as you do.
One that gives you a stronger sense of direction and purpose each time you paint, whilst leaving plenty of room to play, experiment and discover. In fact, those moments of exploration are often what refine your compass even further.
As artists, we never really stop learning. The question simply changes. We move from asking "How do I paint this?" to exploring "What kind of artist am I becoming?"
Our hope is that you'll leave not only with stronger paintings, but with greater clarity, confidence and a deeper understanding of your own creative direction.
2 unique perspectives: Peter and Tom will both share their thoughts, ideas and approaches to painting in a variety of painting mediums (including oil, acrylics, watercolours and gouache) whilst discussing and exploring their differences and creative potential.
Here are some examples of the type of work you could do during this workshop;
• Start a painting from scratch, of your own choice, in any genre and medium, with Peter and Tom on hand to assist the start, development and completion. You might wish to start a commission, a new body of work or an area of painting you’ve always wanted to try but are not sure how to go about.
• Bring numerous works-in-progress with you, unfinished or “failed” paintings and finish them with Peter and Tom on hand to guide them to completion.
• Have discussions with Peter and Tom to help you understand your strengths in painting and drawing, and which areas they suggest you develop and strengthen.
This course is suitable for dedicated and regular painters who want to devote time to develop their creative practice and artworks with expert guidance, support & encouragement on hand.
During the course, you will also cover;
• How to effectively critique and evaluate your own (and others) artwork
• Techniques on how to ‘read’ art and understand what makes a successful painting
• Strategies on producing work that is lead by creative intention and feeling, not just copying
• Finding and developing your own authentic style
Over the 3-days, artists can expect to produce, start or finish a range of pieces, depending on their initial aims and intentions.
What to bring:
• Please bring all your own preferred painting materials (including brushes, palette, canvases, easel etc) that you wish to work with throughout the week.
• Please bring a failed painting/s or works-in-progress that you’d like to work on, improve, develop or resolve.
• Your own photographic references or objects, dependent on your chosen subject matter, to work from.
• Lunch
Tickets for this workshop will be available from Friday 11th September 9am (UK time).
