I painted the impressive profile of Ludlow Castle in July 2026 whilst leading a painting retreat there. I painted this view on a blisteringly hot late morning, hidden under the trees of the woods opposite the castle.

Ludlow Castle is a ruined medieval fortification in the town of Ludlow, Shropshire, standing on a promontory overlooking the River Teme. The castle was founded by Walter de Lacy after the Norman Conquest and was one of the first stone castles to be built in England
