5-day Oil Painting Boot-Camp, London, August 2027

Peter returns to London in the summer of 2027 to lead a NEW, exciting and creative workshop dedicated to the art of oil painting at Art House Wimbledon Studios.
Workshop includes the use of Michael Harding oil paint, odourless solvent, studio easels and teas, coffee and refreshments.

Over the 5-days, you will explore, experiment and learn all there is to know about the wonderful medium of oil paint. Have you ever wanted to have a fully explained and comprehensive understanding of oil painting? Would you like your paintings to be executed with more confidence? Are you often overwhelmed (or clueless) about by the wide range of mediums for oil paint - and exactly what they do? Whether you are completely new to oil painting or have some experience but are looking to develop it further, then this special, immersive workshop is for you. During the workshop you will be set small, enjoyable, painting exercises, resulting in finished, accomplished paintings, which will strengthen and develop your experience and knowledge of oil painting. Across the 5-days, you will cover;
How to mix colours confidently whilst employing effective palette management
Best approaches to building and constructing an oil painting
Mediums - what they are for and when to use them
Oil painting techniques including scumbling, glazing, impasto and more
Varnishing oil paintings - is it worth it?
How to avoid getting muddy colours
Working from excellent photographic images and still-life set-ups, this course provides plenty of one-to-one instruction from Peter, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of oil painting.
During this 5-day workshop you can expect to produce at least 5 small/medium oil paintings, including studies, colour charts and finished paintings
What is included:
Full painting tuition including group demonstrations and plenty of one-to-one guidance, working from 10am - 4pm
The use of Michael Harding oil paint, odourless solvent, studio easels, tables & chairs
Teas, coffee and refreshments and use of a relaxing break-out space
All participants are required to arrange / bring the following:
Travel to and from Art House Studio, Wimbledon, SW19 1RH
Suitable brushes for oil painting, 5 x canvas/board/canvas paper approx. 40×30cm. Paint palette, apron, note/sketchbook, rags/kitchen paper, palette knife, masking tape and other essential studio sundries etc. A detailed materials list will be sent to participants nearer the time. Adequate travel insurance, especially for those traveling from overseas or arranging accommodation
Spaces will be limited to 12 Artists.
If you are travelling from a distance and are unable to bring materials with you, please talk to us and we can arrange for a full materials pack to be ready for you at the studio (additional fees apply).
Access information: Please note that Art House Wimbledon is set across two levels and there is no lift available. There is one flight of stairs with a handrail.
