Join Peter for an intensive, richly informative and inspiring portrait painting workshop, at the creative Art House Wimbledon Studios, in London.
Workshops include the use of Michael Harding oil paint, odourless solvent, studio easels and teas, coffee and refreshments plus two professional portrait models on one of the days (3-day workshop only).
About these workshops:
2-day Portrait Painting from Photos:
Mon 27 – Tue 28 April
£300
Over the 2 days, Peter will guide you through his structured approach to creating a fully painted head-and-shoulders portrait in oils, which includes the following key steps;
How to start a portrait
Mixing accurate flesh tones
Capturing facial details
Creating a good likeness
Not over working the painting
Working from excellent photographic images (with an opportunity to bring your own images to work from) this course provides plenty of one-to-one instruction from Peter, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of portraiture.
During this 2-day workshop you can expect to produce 1 head-and-shoulders portrait.
3-day Portrait Workshop with Live Models:
Wednesday 29 Apr – Fri 1 May
£495
Over the 3-days, Peter will guide you through his approach to both sketching and painting from the live, clothed portrait model. Day 1 will see you use charcoal on paper where you will develop your skills on proportions and tonal values. Day 2 will see you paint a portrait from life in oils. Day 3 will be working from reference photos taken on the previous days to finish the painting or to begin a new one. Principles covered will include;
Beginning a portrait in a more loose and expressive way
Using a more contemporary approach to colour
Using a wide range of mark-making and brush techniques
Not over working the painting
This workshop provides plenty of one-to-one instruction from Peter, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of portraiture.
During this 3-day workshop you can expect to produce 2 drawings in charcoal and at least 1 oil portrait.

Set in the very heart of Wimbledon town centre, opposite the iconic New Wimbledon Theatre, Art House Wimbledon is a beautifully light and spacious, private, studio space owned and run by fellow professional artist, Colin Fitzpatrick. Situated just 8 minutes walk from Wimbledon mainline train station and underground (District Line), the studio is located next to the thriving hub of cafes, shops and restaurants that Wimbledon has to offer. There are plenty of accommodation options available very close by. There is also a car park, 1 minutes walk from the studio (daily fees apply).
What is included:
Full painting tuition including group demonstrations and plenty of one-to-one guidance, working from 10am - 4pm
The use of Michael Harding oil paint, odourless solvent, studio easels, tables & chairs
Two professional portrait models on two of the days (3-day workshop only)
Teas, coffee and refreshments and relaxing break-out space
All participants are required to arrange / bring the following:
Travel to and from Art House Studio, Wimbledon, SW19 1RH
Suitable brushes for oil painting, canvas/ground approx. 50x40cm. Paint palette, apron, note/sketchbook, rags/kitchen paper, palette knife, masking tape and other essential studio sundries etc. A detailed materials list will be sent to participants nearer the time.
Adequate travel insurance, especially for those traveling from overseas or arranging accommodation
Spaces will be limited to 15 Artists.
