Cotswolds Painting Workshops: 20, 21 & 22 May 2027
Dates available:
Thursday 20th May - £95
Friday 21st May - £95
Saturday 22nd May - £95
Participants are welcome to join for 1 day, 2 days, or the full 3 days.
Peter will be visiting a new location for three days of plein-air painting; Lower Slaughter Village Hall in the Cotswolds.
What to expect
Join Peter for a series of plein-air painting days in one of the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds; Lower Slaughter. Each day we will explore the abundance of inspiration the village has to offer including; honey-coloured and wisteria covered cottages, the bridges over the river Eye, the old Mill and the beautiful spire of Saint Mary’s Church. Our base will be the beautiful Lower Slaughter Village Hall, where we will meet each morning (and paint should the weather not allow for us to be outside all day).
Each daily workshop will include detailed demonstrations and lots of opportunities for one-to-one guidance as you paint.
Although suitable for all abilities, some previous painting experience would be beneficial to get the most out of the day.
Itinerary
Arrivals from 9:30am for a 10am start and introduction in Lower Slaughter Village Hall, followed by a short walk around village and a morning painting demonstration.
Lunch: 1-2pm followed by an afternoon painting demonstration
Finish: 4pm
Materials
Artists are asked to bring all their own painting materials. Peter will be working in oil paints or gouache although artists working in all mediums are warmly welcomed. During each day, Peter will do at least 1 painting demonstration, leaving plenty of time for your own painting, with Peter on hand for individual support and guidance.
Peter will be working with Michael Harding Oils or gouache in the following colours: Titanium White, Lemon Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Crimson, Viridian, Cobalt Blue and Ultramarine.
Other possible colours (but not essential) could include: Cadmium Yellow, Magenta, Purple, Sap Green, Raw Umber, Ivory Black.
Brushes: Appropriate brushes for your chosen medium. Peter uses Hog Filbert brushes from Rosemary & Co.
Grounds: Appropriate ground for your chosen medium. Peter will be using primed, canvas boards. Approx size 20x30cm
Other items: Field/French/portable easel, palette, painting medium or water, sketch pad and pencil, rags/tissues, carrier bag for waste and bottled water for water based painters. A lightweight portable chair/stool may also come in use.
Attire: We will be spending the time outdoors in the British weather, so come prepared for all eventualities. Sun hats, sunscreen and appropriate footwear is recommended.
Walking expectations: Please be advised that this retreat includes some walking and a lot of standing; you should feel physically fit and able to walk around the village, carrying / transporting your painting equipment.
Lunch: Please bring your own lunch with you. A kitchen is available in the village hall. There is the small River Cafe (near the Mill) that offers teas, coffees and snacks. A wider lunch offering can be found in the Slaughters Country Inn situated next to the village hall.
Parking: Please note that parking is limited in the village of Lower Slaughter and there is none next to the hall. We recommend you park on Copsehill, opposite the Slaughters Manor House Hotel, which is a short walk from the hall. Further details and directions on parking will be sent to you before the workshop.
