5 day Creative Development Workshop: 11 - 15 October 2027

£600.00

“The recent Creative Development course was so varied with different exercises each morning encouraging creativity before beginning our own paintings.  It was invaluable critiquing each others work every day and seeing how the tasks had been interpreted in a variety of different ways… I came away learning a huge amount and enjoying the week more than I could have possibly imagined.” - Julie

Dates Available:

  • 11 - 15 October 2027 (Mon-Fri)

5 day course: 10am - 4pm

Limited to 12 participants

£600

A course, designed by Peter, aimed at artists looking to develop their own individual skills, artistic development and creative outcomes in the studio.

This is a unique 5-day workshop which will allow Peter to work with you on what YOU are looking to develop! Delivered through a mixture of demonstrations, critiques and discussions, you will be in the studio with other like-minded artists, all working on strengthening their own individual skills and producing successful paintings. A 5-day experience to fully commit and immerse yourself in your art work. Think of it like an immersive 5-days at an inspiring art college with other likeminded and dedicated painters.

Here are some examples of the type of work you could do during this workshop;

  • Start a painting from scratch, of your own choice, in any genre and medium, with Peter on hand to assist the start, development and completion. You might wish to start a commission, a new body of work or an area of painting you;ve always wanted to try but not sure how to go about it.

  • Bring numerous works-in-progress with you, unfinished or “failed” paintings and finish them with Peter on hand to guide them to completion.

  • Have a relaxed and informal discussion with Peter, to help you understand your strengths in painting and drawing and which areas he suggested you develop and strengthen.

  • Work with Peter to create a development plan for the week (or beyond), helping you with the key areas you would like to improve.

This course is suitable for dedicated and regular painters who want to devote time to develop their creative practice and artworks with expert guidance, support & encouragement on hand.

During the course, you will also cover;

  • How to effectively critique and evaluate your own (and others) artwork

  • Techniques on how to ‘read’ art and understand what makes a successful painting

  • Strategies on producing work that is lead by creative intention and feeling, not just copying

  • Finding and developing your own authentic style

Over the 5 days, artists can expect to produce, start or finish a range of pieces, depending on their initial aims and intentions.

Throughout the workshop Peter will also work on some of his own paintings, sharing his thoughts and ideas on producing paintings which have impact, sincerity and depth.

For artists who have previously attended this workshop, there will be different exercises and activities handed out.

What to bring:

  • Please bring all your own preferred painting materials (including brushes, palette, canvases etc) that you wish to work with throughout the week. Some paint is available (see below)

  • Please bring a failed painting/s or works-in-progress that you’d like to work on, improve, develop or resolve.

  • Your own photographic references or objects, dependent on your chosen subject matter, to work from. If you wish to work from a live portrait model, please email us and we can arrange this (whether you source them or we do). An additional charge will be required if a model is booked by us.

“The 5-day workshop provided an unusual opportunity to immerse myself without distraction in a supportive environment. I made a step change in knowledge and achievement in each of the four workshops of various lengths that I have attended and in this case, five days gave me the time to work on a larger more ambitious piece.  Peter helped me overcome occasional blocks and lapses of confidence.” - Chris

“For me the workshop gave me a whole week to think about nothing but painting. It was an opportunity to think as well as to do and to stretch my skills through the small fun exercises Peter gave us, reminding us at the same time that we are supposed to be enjoying our painting! It was very helpful to break out of my comfort zone. It was inspiring to see everyone doing something different - no chance to compare and despair! - but an opportunity to be excited by what other people do and gain some surprising ideas on how to take ideas from landscape painting in to portrait painting, or from a horse painting to a rugby player!

The atmosphere of the week was relaxed and supportive so it was also an opportunity to ask some basic questions…no question felt stupid or trivial.

And finally, at the end of the week, Peter gave us feedback on what we do well (something most of us forget when we listen to our inner critics - that we do actually do a lot of things well!) and suggestions on the directions we might go when we were back on our own and what might be really helpful to practice or exciting to try.” - Michal
