A NEW course, designed by Peter, aimed at artists looking to develop their own individual skills, artistic development and creative outcomes in the studio.
This is a NEW unique 5-day workshop which will allow Peter to work with you on what YOU are looking to develop! Delivered through a mixture of demonstrations, critiques and discussions, you will be in the studio with other like-minded artists, all working on strengthening their own individual skills and producing successful paintings. A 5-day experience to fully commit and immerse yourself in your art work. Think of it like an immersive 5-days at an inspiring art college with other likeminded and dedicated painters.
Here are some examples of the type of work you could do during this workshop;
Start a painting from scratch, of your own choice, in any genre and medium, with Peter on hand to assist the start, development and completion. You might wish to start a commission, a new body of work or an area of painting you;ve always wanted to try but not sure how to go about it.
Bring numerous works-in-progress with you, unfinished or “failed” paintings and finish them with Peter on hand to guide them to completion.
Have a relaxed and informal discussion with Peter, to help you understand your strengths in painting and drawing and which areas he suggested you develop and strengthen.
Work with Peter to create a development plan for the week (or beyond), helping you with the key areas you would like to improve.
This course is suitable for dedicated and regular painters who want to devote time to develop their creative practice and artworks with expert guidance, support & encouragement on hand.
During the course, you will also cover;
How to effectively critique and evaluate your own (and others) artwork
Techniques on how to ‘read’ art and understand what makes a successful painting
Strategies on producing work that is lead by creative intention and feeling, not just copying
Finding and developing your own authentic style
Over the 5 days, artists can expect to produce, start or finish a range of pieces, depending on their initial aims and intentions.
Throughout the workshop Peter will also work on some of his own paintings, sharing his thoughts and ideas on producing paintings which have impact, sincerity and depth.
What to bring:
Please bring all your own preferred painting materials (including brushes, palette, canvases etc) that you wish to work with throughout the week. Some paint is available (see below)
Please bring a failed painting/s or works-in-progress that you’d like to work on, improve, develop or resolve.
Your own photographic references or objects, dependent on your chosen subject matter, to work from. If you wish to work from a live portrait model, please email us and we can arrange this (whether you source them or we do). An additional charge will be required if a model is booked by us.
What is provided:
Peter will have a range of oil colours by Michael Harding available to use throughout the course, if you would like to use or try them.
Studio easels, low odour solvent for oil painting, tables, chairs and other studio sundries.
If you would like to work from some of Peter’s own excellent reference images (including portraits, figures, landscapes or garden images) please let us know.
Teas, coffee and biscuits. Please bring your own lunch.
This course will take place at the light and spacious Hogshaw Farm studio in North Buckinghamshire, MK18 3LA.
The studio is situated on the first floor of the barn which has a lift for accessibility. There is a basic café on site (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) so we recommend that participants bring their own lunch.
