Join Peter on his only full-week, all-inclusive, painting break for 2026, in the rural calm of the Shropshire Hills.

About this retreat:

A NEW painting retreat, designed by Peter, aimed at artists looking to develop their own individual skills, artistic development and creative outcomes in a beautiful and inspiring part of the UK, the Shropshire Hills. Our venue for this retreat is Longmynd Hotel in Church Stretton. This special retreat will allow Peter to work with you on what YOU are looking to develop! Delivered through a mixture of demonstrations, critiques and discussions, you will work in our designated studio area, or out in the grounds, with other like-minded artists, all working on strengthening their own individual skills and producing successful paintings; a week-long experience to fully commit to and immerse yourself in your artwork – with excellent food and accommodation thrown in!

Here are some examples of the type of work you could do during this retreat:

  • Start a painting from scratch, of your own choice, in any genre and medium, with Peter on hand to assist the start, development and completion.

  • You might wish to start a commission, a new body of work or develop an area of painting you’ve always wanted to try but are unsure about.

  • Paint the glorious views of the Shropshire Hills surrounding the hotel, inspired by Peter’s live, plein-air demonstrations in oils, acrylics or gouache.

  • Bring works-in-progress with you, unfinished or “failed” paintings and finish them, with Peter on hand to guide you through to completion.

The week will include relaxed and informal discussions with Peter, to help you understand your strengths in painting and drawing, and suggested areas for you to develop and strengthen.

This course is suitable for dedicated and regular painters who want to devote time to develop their creative practice and artwork, with expert guidance, support & encouragement on hand.

During the course, you will also cover:

  • How to effectively critique and evaluate your own (and others) artwork

  • Techniques on how to ‘read’ art and understand what makes a successful painting

  • Strategies on producing work that is led by creative intention and feeling, not just copying

  • Finding and developing your own authentic style

Across the week, artists can expect to produce, start or finish a range of pieces, depending on their initial aims and intentions.
