Painting The Peaks: 8 - 12 June 2026 - reserve your space by Feb 24th!
Join me on this all-inclusive, residential, 5-day (4-night) painting break in Britain’s first National park, The Peak District, 8 - 12 June 2026
About this course:
Paint the glorious views and vistas of the Peak District, surrounded by mountain views, hidden valleys and beautiful reservoir vistas.
During this retreat, you will have the chance to work plein-air (from life) with me, in some of the most iconic and famous places across the south of the National park.
I will both demonstrate and guide you through some of the best methods for painting and sketching outside, in both oils, acrylics and/or gouache (in case of inclement weather, we will have the use of an indoor painting space). Bring your walking boots and a sun hat and join me (for manageable strolls) up the gentle hills and down dales, with your paints in hand, on what promises to be a fantastic week of painting, in the month of June, in beautiful surroundings.
What is included:
Full painting tuition for 3-days (Tues, Weds, Thurs) including group demonstrations and plenty of 1-1 guidance, working from 10am - 4pm
Fully planned itinerary: based around the weather, paintable locations and convenient amenities
4-nights accommodation from Monday 8 - Friday 12 June
All food (including breakfast, a picnic lunch and evening dinner).
Free parking, Wifi and use of the amenities and public rooms in the hotel
The Accommodation:
Our home for this fully inclusive retreat will be The Peveril of the Peak; a 3*, characterful, country house hotel, less than a mile from the famous Dovedale Stepping Stones and on the doorstep of Thorpe Cloud – a cone-shaped limestone hill that offers impressive views over the rolling green landscape that forms the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border.
The house has a comfortable lounge, a dining room serving a wide range of dishes made with fresh and seasonal ingredients, a licensed bar and books and games to borrow during your stay. You’ll also find a boot and drying room, extensive grounds, plus an outdoor terrace that’s perfect for soaking up beautiful countryside views. The hotel also offers a wide range of local area maps, route guides, and easy-to-follow information for self-guided walks, ideal for non-painting partners who would like to join the retreat.
All rooms are en-suite and include free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee-making facilities, toiletries and a TV.
Room types include doubles and twins.
Non-painting partners are warmly welcomed to join this retreat to take advantage of the accommodation, food, amenities and ideal location for further exploring the Peak District.
Seasonal dining, tailored for you

Peter says "Visiting and exploring the Peak District is one of my favourite things to do. I absolutely, adore the scenery, exploring the ancient landscape and trying to do it justice in my sketchbook! For those of you who have been to my workshops before, you will know how much I love to share exactly how I create exciting and engaging paintings, using glorious surroundings as inspiration. Once the painting is done for the day, I look forward to chatting all things art and more with you around the dining table. I hope to see you there."
