About this course

Portraiture remains Peter’s first love and during this 4-part course, he will show you how he approaches painting 4 different head and shoulders portraits, in his own style.

During the 4 lessons, you will cover the following:

• How to achieve accurate proportions, tones and colours

• Where to start and how to build your portrait

• Achieving richness of colour in your portraits

• How to capture a likeness

• Utilising a range of painterly effects 

• The 4 different sitters include an old bearded man, a middle aged black woman, a young white red-headed boy and a young white long-haired woman.

• 4 × 3 hour video lessons

• The ability to watch the lessons as many times as you need before Feb 2026.

By the end of this course, you will have created at least 4 different paintings.

Peter uses oil paints throughout this course, although it would also be of use to those artists who prefer working in acrylics as Peter does talk about how he would use acrylics in some of the lessons.
